What to look for in a Wireless Outdoor Security Camera

With the advancement of wireless technology today, security cameras can now be operated wirelessly without the use of wires or cables. A wireless outdoor security camera is quick and easy to install. It will only take a few minutes to mount the camera. Once it’s installed, you are ready to monitor your surroundings. Before buying a wireless security camera, here are some things to consider.

A wireless security camera uses radio frequency to transmit the video images it captures to a receiver. It is very important to make sure you plan out the set up of your system before you buy. Typically, the operating range between the wireless camera and its receiver is up to 100 meters. You should experience no problems with signal loss within this range but it will also depend if there are obstructions like walls and ceilings. If you think that the distance between the camera and the receiver is more than that range, you might consider buying a wireless camera with powerful antennas that has a wider range.

An outdoor security camera must be built tough to withstand the natural elements like rain or snow. The camera housing must also be tamper resistant to anyone trying to damage or disable it. Make sure that your wireless outdoor security camera is sufficiently protected against whatever extremes in temperatures that are common in your area.

Finally, consider the light levels of your camera. The lux rating is a way to determine the camera’s ability to operate in low light conditions. The lower the lux rating, the less light the camera needs in order to get a clearer picture. If the light level is very low, you may want to consider a wireless infrared security camera that can provide excellent night vision. The best infrared outdoor security camera is capable of capturing clear images even in total darkness.

Fake security

I have found out about home security and surveillance just about a month ago. The first thing that I looked for was outdoor dummy security cameras because they would look like they are surveilling the house but cost just a little. The most ridiculous thing is that they don’t usually even have any wires coming out from them. Someone who is thinking of breaking and entering your house is not going to do so when he sees that you have security in your house. But you will be laughing inside because you only spent twenty bucks for some fake cameras that were designed to give the false appearance of security. Next time I am getting some real security since I am an art collector and I have an expensive collection.
