Guillotine Paper Cutter Safety Precautions

A guillotine paper cutter can be a dangerous tool to have around your home. You will want to be very careful when using it yourself as well as use extreme caution when others are nearby, especially children.

The blade on the guillotine paper cutter is extremely sharp. These days, you will find that the way the blade is made in manufacturing, it does not look very dangerous. This is because sometimes it doesn’t look like a knife blade, all shiny and made from stainless metal. The guillotine paper cutter that I have does have a metal blade, but it is the same color as the arm and is black. If a child happens across the cutter, they may not realize that the blade is very sharp since they are expecting it to be like a knife blade.

It is fortunate that there is often a safety lock on the guillotine paper cutter blade. When the arm is positioned in the downward place, it will spring up unless it is locked into place. This is how it should always be stored. With the safety lock in position. As well, when using the guillotine paper cutter it is extremely important to put the arm down after you have released the paper from a cut. If you don’t, it could cause serious injury to yourself or someone else. Even if you think the arm is tight enough to stay standing up on it’s own, don’t take it for granted. Pull it back down and lock it safely into the downward position.

The weight of a guillotine paper cutter is very heavy. The reason for this is because it has to be very stable. The entire unit is made of metal. One needs to exercise caution when using a guillotine paper cutter because if it falls off the table or surface you are using, it could cause injury to your foot or someone else who is standing nearby. Fortunately, the guillotine paper cutter often has little rubber feet attached to the bottom of it so that it will not slip. These little feet act like a grip to the surface and thus when you do the action of cutting paper, the paper cutter is less likely to move on it’s own.

Following common sense safety precautions when using the guillotine paper cutter should help you in your quest to eliminate possible accidents from what could be a dangerous scenario.
