Horses have always been a favorite of both children and adults a like. I can not even remember how many time growing up that I played cowboys and indians with the neighbor kids all while ridding around on my pretend horse. I like so many other children both boys and girls would have loved having a pony as we were growing up, but unfortunately most of our parents did not have a big enough yard to keep a pony let alone enough money to take care of such an animal. Fortunately today there is one thing that parents can do that although will not cure their child’s desire to own a pony, will at least let their imagination run wild like the wild mustangs of the west.
If you can not afford a pony then why not do an equestrian or cowboy themed room for your child. Little boys would love a cowboy themed room to play in and would be so easy to do. All it takes is a few pictures of famous cowboys on their horses, maybe a reproduction wanted poster or two, a few toy horses on a shelf, and maybe a horse bedspread with matching curtains to finish the room off. Also while you are out purchasing all of these items for your little one do not forget to get them a cowboy outfit as well complete with a silver star.
If you are decorating for a little girl she might not enjoy the cowboy theme as well so it is best to stick with just horse related items. Like maybe some pictures of horses running in an open field, or pictures of previous winners of the Kentucky Derby would be neat, along with horse pillow cases, sheets, and blankets. Another item that goes great with an equestrian themed room and kind of ties together all the décor in the room is an equestrian rug. These equestrian rugs do not have to be very big, and can be as simple as a 5×6 area rug with a horse print on it, or as complex as using realistic horse shaped area rugs.
