Allen thought about what the old Crafter, an elderly herbal doctor, had told him about English witchcraft, and that a spirit familiar, or an animal he dreamt about, could be a pet from a past life. He believed in past lives. So like any spirit, a familiar has the ability to hear you if you speak to the spirit. You must speak out loud as spirits cannot read your mind. If he wanted to see the dog again, or if he had a problem you would like a spirit to help him with, he knew he could just speak out loud (above a whisper) and ask. (Does this remind you of prayer?) He only had to explain what he wished and he might get what you ask for. He remembered that to ask out loud to remember the dream after you awaken. That’s important. Also, to better remember your dreams, write down your dreams in a journal immediately upon awakening. Date it. Concepts and ideas come across more clearly when looking at a series of dreams rather than one or two.
