The house was converted into a museum in the 20th century. It is open to visitors daily.
Next on the list of historical sites one must visit in the Dominican Republic’s capital is the Church of the Jesuit Fathers and National Pantheon, or as the locals say, the Iglesia de los Padres Jesuitas y Panteon Nacional. This Neoclassical-Renaissance church was constructed during the middle of the 18th century to serve as a church run by the Jesuits. However, the building underwent many reincarnations after that including serving as a tobacco warehouse, a theater, a seminary, and the address of various public offices before finally being converted in the National Pantheon, serving as the final resting place of the national heroes of the Dominican Republic.
Any sightseeing trip is incomplete without stopping by for some souvenirs. The old streets of Santo Domingo is lined with stalls and shops that sell a lot of souvenirs ranging from the typical tourist fare of handicrafts, souvenir shirts, and carvings, to higher end goods such as cigars, rum, cocoa, and coffee. It is said that the cigars are of the same quality as Cuban cigars. Of course, these wares are ideal not just for gifts to give to family and friends after you have arrived from your trip but for your own consumption as well.
