There’s nothing like the look of the classic black leather sofa, but wow is real leather expensive. These days you can find a contemporary leather sofa made of aniline leather for less. This is a real leather sofa, but it’s dyed to soften and age the leather to make it more comfortable to sit on. There are two downsides of this highly breathable fabric. One is that the dye is often inconsistent because manufacturers do not add pigment. The second is that it gets dirty easy so you will spend a lot of time cleaning it. Other leather sofas include finished leather which is semi-aniline. It has a much more natural look to it than aniline and is easier to keep clean but it has a consistent coloring. One more style if bicast leather. This is aniline with a polyurethane coating. While it is more durable than the other two it looks and feels less natural.

Although you may think a leather sofa is simply out of your price range, consider the fact that a good quality sofa can last for ten years or more. Viewing the purchase in that context will reveal that over the course of time you may actually spend less for your leather sofa than a comparably styled fabric covered sofa.
Good quality leather sofas resist stains much better than fabric because if you act quickly liquid will not absorb into the leather as it will with fabric. Fabric breaks down much more quickly than leather and so will begin to lose its pristine appearance and comfort after a few years. Leather will actually improve in appearance and comfort if properly cared for.
When shopping for your next sofa be sure to take into consideration how long you will be able to use and appreciate the sofa. Don’t make the purchase based mostly on the sticker price. Lower priced sofas are priced lower for a reason. Treat yourself to a luxury that might actually be a wise investment.
