Juicing…with a Blender?

Cut Out - blender

For those that are afraid to invest a lot of money in a new juicer, a blender provides for a possible alternative.  While it will never compare to the capabilities of a juicer, a blender has many other functions, including getting raw foods into your diet.

First of all, blenders are more mainstream.  Most likely you have one already.  If not, you can get a good blender for as low as $25.  Not bad at all!

You can make your juicer recipes by blending raw foods  to make a puree, which you can add liquid for the desired consistency.  Doing this provides an important advantage over a juicer – by blending the whole fruit, you get ALL the nutrients, because you are not discarding the pulp (although you can just eat the pulp after juicing too!)  You can also get much use out of your blender, including making sauces, smoothies, and slushies.

Blending does have some functionality in a raw food diet.  It can never take the role of a juicer, but if you’ve ever been intrigued in juicing, use your blender to get a taste what it’s like.  If you are satisfied, go buy a real juicer and start indulging in easy juicer recipes!

High Quality Juicer Makes A Difference

The second half of ensuring your juicer recipes result in quality juice is the quality of the juicer itself. Using fresh and organic fruits and vegetables can only take you so far. It will keep out the toxins that are detrimental to your health but the effectiveness of the nutrients and enzymes contained in the juice depends on the juicers ability to liquefy the produce.

OrangesA good juicer should operate at as slow a speed as possible. This is to ensure that there is minimal heat generated by the blades which otherwise would partially cook the ingredients. Any food suffers from alterations to its chemical composition when cooked with heat to varying degrees and juice is no exception.  The nutrients and minerals could also suffer from impact shock that would also alter the chemical structure and thus reducing the health benefits that would have been gained if those vital nutrients were in its natural state. The bottom line is that you want a good juicer that does not alter the juice and all the health benefits that come with it consuming highly concentrated vitamins, minerals, and enzymes.
