Farm Dogs and Fat Dogs

Question: what is a farm dog?
Answer: any dog trained by its owner to work on a farm.
A farm dog, by the very nature of its work, cannot function efficiently if it is overweight. These animals need to scamper about, rounding up sheep, herding the cattle home for milking and alerting their owners to any potential danger. Fat dogs need not apply. A fat dog would be virtually useless out on the farm.
Farm dogs herd, watch over other animals in their care, protect their master and sometimes go hunting with him. They are very territorial and mainly live out of doors in kennels and outhouses.
Because they are used to accompanying their owner and are out in the fields all day, they seldom make suitable family pets.
They have been bred as outdoor animals, and that is how they like to live.
The Dog House

Everyone who owns a dog knows that if you train your do to enjoy having his own space in a dog kennel as a puppy it will greatly help you in the future. Dogs learn fastest as a puppy and although you can teach an old dog new tricks, it will be more difficult if you wait. Teaching a dog to like his dog kennel is important because it can be used for many things. Your dog will be less anxious when traveling on a plane, you could tell your dog to go into his kennel when a guest arrives at your house, you could even use it when it is time for everyone to sleep. Your dog will also enjoy having a place where he knows he can go to retreat from the family and feel that no one is going to bother him. Dogs need to have a “home” too and a dog kennel can do that for them.
