How Difficult is Potty Training a Dog?
Posted by GuestPoster in Pets and Animals on November 20th, 2010
One of the messiest and frustrating aspects of dog training must be potty training a dog. This is unfortunately a necessary evil and the best it to get it over and done with. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could simply send our dog to a dog training school and collect him some time latter, fully house trained? Unfortunately, this is not possible as the deed happens at home and, as a result, the training to prevent it, as well as the required cleaning up can also only happen at home. The best dog training schools can do in this regard is offer advice and possibly some tips.
Fortunately, potty training a dog is not that difficult, and your dog can be fully house trained in a relatively short time. In recent years the development of potty training pads as well as puppy training crates have supposedly made the process easier and faster, not to mention less messy. Whether or not these systems work is depends on each dog owner’s personal opinion. I have never used either pads or a crate as I accept that puppy potty training needs to be done, and thus handle the mess and frustration cheerfully and simply carry on.
The introduction of puppy training pads has brought about potential safety concerns that should be recognized. This is in addition to the health hazard that has always existed when dealing with animal feces and urine if these are not cleaned thoroughly. Stepping in or slipping on undetected dog mess is not a pleasant experience at all. Whilst puppy pads has potentially reduced the health risk due to the containment it affords, the risk of slipping not on the mess, but on the pad itself, still remains or has possibly increased. Puppy training pads torn to pieces by a playful puppy mistaking them for toys adds chocking hazard for both child and puppy.
Providing the potential danger and problems are recognized, there is no reason why potty training can’t happen smoothly and without hassle. Once done, it never has to be repeated and the smelly mess will soon be a memory long forgotten.

Training Your Havanese
Posted by admin in Pets Galore on October 6th, 2009
For some dog breeders, the pastime is all about making money and, believe it or not, there are quite a few breeders and trainers out there doing it strictly to make a buck and NOT because they are strong animal or dog lovers. While you would think that people would get into that line of work because of their undying love for everything canine, the reality is that – like any other job – cash is king. In fact, it’s estimated that one out of every three dog breeders is in the business strictly as a capitalist enterprise and there are even breeders out there who are allergic to dogs – the money is just that good! And if you are talking about specialty of novelty breeds – such as Havanese training or Pomeranian puppy rearing – there is even more money to be made as these niches are not filled by too many people. So the bottom line is this: if you meet a dog breeder, don’t automatically assume they are in it for the love of the dogs.
