The abuse of credit cards created financial turmoil both from the point of view of the card holder and the credit card company. Some credit card providers have offered credit cards to those have the potential to pay in the future, and this includes students. One result is that when most of the card holders can’t pay anymore, the company is left with defaulted accounts. From the point of view of the card holder, having a credit card is quite beneficial on the onset because a person may be able to purchase an item or avail of a service without actually having cash. They are bound by the understanding with the credit card company that the company may pay for the expenses for now, but everything should be paid in the future. Because of this, credit card holders tend to overuse their cards to the extent that the credit limit is maximized making the card unusable and the person in deep financial mess.

Credit Cards Are Really Debt Cards

Credit card companies have a basic mission – and that is to put you into debt. Think about it for a moment. Who brings more money to the bottom line for a credit card company, a person who pays off their complete balance every month, or a person who maintains a revolving balance and keeps making the minimum payment each month? A pretty simple answer isn’t it.
When you’re in debt, you’re paying interest charges plus you’re in a position to have other fees tacked onto your bill as well. For instance, you’re certain to see another charge if you make a late payment; if you purchase something from outside the country; if you make one too many cash advances, etc. So it goes against the grain for a credit card company to want to help you out if you get into trouble with your payments. Helping you out of debt doesn’t add to their bottom line.
That’s why it’s very important for you to see credit cards for what they really are. They’re not some “gift” from banks and other card issuers to help you along in life. Rather they’re potential “debt engines” that require very disciplined use and oversight to manage properly.
Treat them with the respect they deserve. Handle them with care. And don’t every use them in a casual or careless manner. Otherwise, you might find out just how fast one of these “debt engines” can drive you to the poor house.
And if you’re looking for an alternative to credit cards, take a little time to learn about debit cards and how they can work for you.
