Back Country Comfort: Camp Chair Kits
Posted by admin in The Great Outdoors on August 25th, 2009
If you have ever been on an overnight hiking trip, you will be painfully aware of two things by the end of the first day: your feet hurt, and there is no camp chair to sit on.
Or is there? If you brought along a mat to put under your sleeping bag, then you could also have included a chair kit with your gear. While each brand works a little differently, they all accomplish the same thing: they convert your sleeping mat into a lounge chair … complete with a back.
To some, this may seem like an unnecessary luxury for a trip into the wilderness, but consider how much more relaxing it is to stretch out your legs and lean on an actual chair back after a long day of hoofing. You will be the envy of your companions who are squirming around, trying in vain to find a comfortable position on a rock or cross-legged on the ground.
To cap it off, most of these kits are less than a pound, so they will add very little weight to your backpack.
So, before hitting the trail again, consider picking up a chair kit, and enjoy “roughing it” in comfort.
Small Camping Chairs
Posted by admin in The Great Outdoors on August 9th, 2009
For the campers who walk long distances before setting up camp, a small camping chair is the thing to buy. This kind of chair is often referred to as camping stools. They come in a few different forms and shapes. The most used designs are the chairs with four and the ones with three legs. Usually the chairs are made without a back support.
The chairs with four legs were traditionally the most used kind of camping stools. I remember that we had several of these when I was a kid. The problem with them is that they take a lot of space, even when they are folded. In recent years the stools with three legs have almost completely taken over. These are the chairs that we often refer to as tripods. They can be folded into very small sizes, and therefore they are much easier to bring on long walks.

Buying Good Camping Chairs
Posted by admin in The Great Outdoors on July 31st, 2009
It’s easy to become lost when you’re in the market to buy camping chairs. There are a lot of different brands and styles of chairs, and who really knows what to look for? Is comfort the most important thing? Do I need a footrest? What about a canopy? Should I go with a lightweight chair?
Here’s what you need to know about buying a camping chair. First off, buy a name brand chair from a reputable company. Sure, it might cost a bit more, but the better quality will last you for years. Second, buy a lightweight chair if you’re going backpacking. Otherwise get the most comfortable chair you can find. Lastly, don’t worry too much about the bells and whistles. Canopies and footrests are nice, but they’re ultimately not that important.
