Envelope Sizing Terrors

Did you know that a lot of people think that 5 x 7 envelopes will fit their 5 x 7 invitations? It is actually recommended that the envelope should be at least 1/2” longer than the longest insert and have a 1/4” clearance from the top of the envelope. If you were to but a 5” x 7” into a 5” x 7” envelope the envelope would not close. It would also be difficult to put any other enclosures into the envelope. This is a good thing to know, especially if you are designing your own envelope and invitation. You would not want to have created all of these different pieces only to find out that you cannot fit your invitation into your envelope or that the invitations are too loose and rattle around too much. That would be terrible.
