Diaper Dilemma

The debate between cloth vs disposable diapers continues. In fact, both cloth and disposable diapers have advantages and disadvantages.

Cloth diapers, while often seen as bulky and hard to clean, are now being manufactured from multi-layer fabrics that are more absorbent.  They are made from materials that are all-natural and thus are not irritating to the skin.  There are now services that will pick up dirty diapers and drop off clean ones, making this choice convenient, but also expensive. While cloth diapers are seen as environmentally friendly because they are not sent to land fills, the amount of energy and water used to clean them is often cited as just as environmentally harmful as disposable diapers going to land fills.

Disposable diapers have seen great improvements.  They are more absorbent and are less likely to leak than cloth diapers.  This means that skin is less exposed to moisture which can lead to irritation and rashes.

While neither solution is perfect, parents should choose an option that is the best fit for their baby and their lifestyle.
