Common and Key Computer Terms
1. RAM – RAM refers to the workable memory that a computer has. It is used to run programs, so the common rule is the more the better. 1GB is plenty for basic use, but if you are a power user such as for gaming, or for video editing or movie watching you will need more like 3GB plus.
2. Optical Drive – This refers to a CD or DVD burner. These days with the Blu Ray high def technology that is the top of the line and most current burner to have.
3. Ports and Connections – These are the plugs for all the peripherals, such as mouse, printer, keyboard, network and others. USB is the most versatile port so get as many as you can get, and an Ethernet connection for Internet.
