Christmas time in New Zealand means sun, surf and barbeques! Now that it’s more than half way through the year again (I can’t believe how time flies), it’s time to start thinking about planning our yearly Christmas celebrations.
For our family it means a barbeque out on the deck, shaded by our big offset umbrella, grilling the prawns and scallops on the hot coals and downing a few ice cold beers.
Anyone from the Northern hemisphere thinks it’s strange to have a hot Christmas, spending time outside sunbathing on the patio furniture instead of wrapped up in our winter woollies beside a roaring fire, but for us Kiwis the festivities are all about wearing jandals, shorts and singlet’s!
I’ve spent two Christmases in Europe, and while the snow was enchanting, you really can’t beat a hot summer’s day swimming in your pool and lounging around on deck chairs.
