How Difficult is Potty Training a Dog?
Posted by GuestPoster in Pets and Animals on November 20th, 2010
One of the messiest and frustrating aspects of dog training must be potty training a dog. This is unfortunately a necessary evil and the best it to get it over and done with. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could simply send our dog to a dog training school and collect him some time latter, fully house trained? Unfortunately, this is not possible as the deed happens at home and, as a result, the training to prevent it, as well as the required cleaning up can also only happen at home. The best dog training schools can do in this regard is offer advice and possibly some tips.
Fortunately, potty training a dog is not that difficult, and your dog can be fully house trained in a relatively short time. In recent years the development of potty training pads as well as puppy training crates have supposedly made the process easier and faster, not to mention less messy. Whether or not these systems work is depends on each dog owner’s personal opinion. I have never used either pads or a crate as I accept that puppy potty training needs to be done, and thus handle the mess and frustration cheerfully and simply carry on.
The introduction of puppy training pads has brought about potential safety concerns that should be recognized. This is in addition to the health hazard that has always existed when dealing with animal feces and urine if these are not cleaned thoroughly. Stepping in or slipping on undetected dog mess is not a pleasant experience at all. Whilst puppy pads has potentially reduced the health risk due to the containment it affords, the risk of slipping not on the mess, but on the pad itself, still remains or has possibly increased. Puppy training pads torn to pieces by a playful puppy mistaking them for toys adds chocking hazard for both child and puppy.
Providing the potential danger and problems are recognized, there is no reason why potty training can’t happen smoothly and without hassle. Once done, it never has to be repeated and the smelly mess will soon be a memory long forgotten.

Bringing Home Your New Rottweiler
Posted by GuestPoster in Pets and Animals on November 8th, 2010
If you are getting a new Rottweiler puppy and you haven’t yet brought him home, we have some tips that can help you get off on the right foot with your Rottweiler training. These tips are extremely simple to implement, and they can make your job of potty training much easier. Since this is the most stressful time of a puppy’s life, and it leads to the most confusion and consternation on the part of many owners, making this as stress free as possible will benefit both you and the puppy, since it will allow your relationship to develop naturally, and won’t lead you to be angry at the puppy.
The first thing to understand is that Rottweiler puppies are just like any other puppies. They are very sensitive. They want to do a good job and please you, but they don’t always understand what you want. It’s easy to forget how old your puppy is. A newborn infant human of a few months old would never be expected to “hold it” for hours and hours throughout the day, and you would never shout at an infant who had an accident, so you should realize that even though your pup is running around and exploring things, he’s still just a little bit more than an infant, so you should be gentle when reprimanding him. Getting angry and shouting will not get your point across any more clearly, it will only make the puppy afraid of you.
When you bring the puppy home on the first day, take him immediately to the part of the yard where he will be doing his bathroom duty. Leave him there, not playing with him, just supervising him, until he goes to the bathroom. Now that the area has his scent on it, he will associate it with his potty area, and as long as you bring him here consistently, your job will be that much easier!

Posted by GuestPoster in Pets and Animals on September 21st, 2010
The notion of purchasing a pet water fountain seems to have become quite popular the last few years. This is undoubtedly due to the fact that a lot of dog or cat owners are realizing their pets aren’t getting enough to drink. Since nearly all dog or cat owners sincerely love their animals, the idea that they usually are not giving them an adequate amount of water will possibly not make much sense in the beginning. Of course they are giving their animals sufficient water, right? While that could be accurate when it comes to most animal owners, it is the manner of water supply that is the problem most of the time. If you are giving your animal a dish of water which you put out for him and refill each day, you could be shocked to be told that this is simply not sufficient.
Consider animals living in their natural surroundings. Most animals would not be attracted to a motionless source of water. But if it were the only water supply available they may slurp from it just to survive. Give it a little thought and you will realize that a bowl of standing water is not very far removed from that stagnant water supply. The result can be we have an atmosphere where our pets do have a source of water, except it is so boring to them that they barely swallow a sufficient amount.
So, what exactly is the remedy? Pet fountains are the remedy! Purchase any pet water fountain you feel like because it isn’t a huge deal which one you decide on. The purpose should be to furnish the animal a moving water source which he should find enjoyable and, every bit as notably, interesting. If you just achieve this, your animal will drink plenty. Look at the way the pet reacts to a fountain and also compare that to how they handled that bowl of water. It can be a amazing difference. Dogs and cats can be equally entertained and also hydrated both at the same time. But if you have ever seen cats play with a pet water fountain, you know they love to play and also stare just as much as hydrate from it. Multiple pet households have fountains available to them too, like the Drinkwell 360 Stainless.
Keep in mind that the addition of a fountain for your pet can additionally make your daily routine as a animal owner simplier and easier. Your life becomes easier by not needing to clean and replenish a bowl of water nearly as frequently, while at the same time your pets is being kept engaged by his new source of water, and the result of that is you enjoy even more time that you can do with any way you please!
The importance of a Pet Life Jacket
Posted by GuestPoster in Pets and Animals on September 13th, 2010
The joys of the sea are known to many people who enjoy sailing as a hobby. Of course many of these people are also dog owners who like the company of their canine friend on board the boat. One thing that it is vital to be aware of is the importance of a pet life jacket to keep their dog safe.
You may think that this sounds like a crazy idea, after all, everyone knows how well dogs swim. But just think about it, even if you are a great swimmer, would you want to be caught in a storm or find yourself on board a sinking boat without a life jacket? A dog is just the same. He will not fare well for long should he end up in freezing water or with large waves washing over him and young, elderly or unwell dogs would perish in minutes. However, don’t feel that you should just leave him in the garden in his dog kennel while you go out and enjoy yourself. A dog life jacket is not very expensive and will ensure the safety of your canine friend should he end up overboard.
A dog’s life vest, just like a human one, is covered in highly reflective and visible material so you can easily spot him in the water (after all, he won’t be able to call out to you). They are specially designed to be very comfortable and secure with easy to fix straps to hold it on. Many of the jackets also have a strong handle on the top so that you can lean over the side of the boat and pull him out rather than getting into the water and pushing him from below.
There are hundreds of places where you can buy a dog life jacket and so there is no excuse for your dog not to be completely safe on your boat with you.

Dog Training Information

Matt’s Beagle Training Tips, a how to book designed for the novice beagle owner, was the first book I ever read cover to cover and will probably remain the last. It’s not that I don’t like to read – quite the opposite really – it’s just that I don’t find books to be a particularly strong medium for the written word. For one thing, books are too long and the words are often too small. I find myself straining my eyes and struggling to hold my attention to the story fumbling as it unfolds before me.
For me, there’s no better way to read than in short informative bursts. As such, I’m much more of a newspaper or magazine guy and I go through three newspapers on an average work day and five every Sunday. If I travel I read all the local dailies to acclimate myself to my new surroundings and, as someone with a short attention span, I think there’s no better medium than the internet for reading news and short ideas. For all the people who say books are the only way to read properly I’d like to know how they find the time for that much leisure reading and how they can afford handovers that often cost thirty bucks a pop.
To Get A Kitty Or Not To Get A Kitty
Posted by admin in Pets and Animals on June 20th, 2009
If you are thinking about getting a cat, or especially if you’re thinking about getting a kitten, remember it isn’t a decision that should be made on a whim. Having a pet is a big responsibility and one that will be with you for a long time. Domestic cats generally live at least 12 years and some live to be over 20 years old.
One of the big responsibilities is being able to tell when something is wrong and being able to identify a potential feline illness. This can be tricky with cats if you don’t pay attention because they don’t easily show signs of pain or weakness. This is something you often have to pay attention to and notice on your own. Sometimes there will be obvious signs, but sometimes there won’t be. You also need to make sure you can afford the cost of the basics and the cat’s health care.
If you’ve given it a good deal of thought and you know you are ready for the responsibility and cost of having a cat, enjoy. The bond you can develop with your feline friend can be very rewarding.
