Choosing The Right Grass Trimmer
Posted by GuestPoster in Home and Garden on December 23rd, 2009
Many questions arise when purchasing lawn tools. A grass trimmer is an essential tool for any individual with a lawn to care for. There are several different types available, but which one is best for you? Your yard care regimen should go as smoothly as possible. After all, you’re going to be out there at least every two weeks, so you want your tools to work properly every time. Choosing the right grass trimmer is a matter of finding the right balance of features. It also depends a lot on your experience working with tools. A certain degree of upkeep is necessary with these tools, with some types being more difficult and costly in the long run. We will discuss some of these types.
The first is the gasoline powered grass trimmer. Low end models are running around 80 dollars. Most hardened “tool guys” will tell you this is the best way to go. However, if you have little experience working with gasoline powered engines, you may end up improperly caring for it. These engines are more involved than just pouring in gas and pulling the cord. The engine must be filled with the proper amount/type of oil too. Some engines feature a separate oil chamber and some need the oil to be mixed with the gasoline at the proper ratio. These models can be difficult to start, and are also quite loud.
An electric powered model requires very little upkeep and works right out of the box. As with most grass trimmers, you need to wind the trimming cord into the cutter head before you use it. The trimming cords will wear down and eventually need to be replaced. After that, you’re ready to use it. Using an extension cord, plug the unit into any outlet. The trimmer is ready for use. This type is bets for people who don’t want to deal with a lot of maintenance. They are also much quieter than gasoline models.
The third type of trimmer is powered by a rechargeable battery pack. The battery sits on a charger in your garage and is clipped on to the trimmer when in use. These models are the least powerful of the trimmer models and are recommended for smaller jobs. The battery will need to be replaced every couple years as it wears out. These trimmers offer the flexibility of a gas trimmer, and the quietness of the corded models.
Yard care is an essential duty of every home owner or renter. A great way to nourish your plants and keep them healthy is to practice composting at home.
The Very Affordable Leather Sofa
Posted by admin in Home and Garden on July 17th, 2009
Although you may think a leather sofa is simply out of your price range, consider the fact that a good quality sofa can last for ten years or more. Viewing the purchase in that context will reveal that over the course of time you may actually spend less for your leather sofa than a comparably styled fabric covered sofa.
Good quality leather sofas resist stains much better than fabric because if you act quickly liquid will not absorb into the leather as it will with fabric. Fabric breaks down much more quickly than leather and so will begin to lose its pristine appearance and comfort after a few years. Leather will actually improve in appearance and comfort if properly cared for.
When shopping for your next sofa be sure to take into consideration how long you will be able to use and appreciate the sofa. Don’t make the purchase based mostly on the sticker price. Lower priced sofas are priced lower for a reason. Treat yourself to a luxury that might actually be a wise investment.
The Benefits of a Roman Blind Kit
Posted by admin in Home and Garden on July 16th, 2009
Roman blinds are undoubtedly one of the best decorative choices you can make for your home, as they add a touch of elegant simplicity to any window. Hardly surprising really, as they come from an age-old Roman tradition.
Obviously, way back when, the Romans used to make their own blinds. They certainly didn’t go out to a big out of town superstore and buy them. So, if you want to get the true historic experience, you might want to consider making your own roman blinds.
One of the best ways to do this is actually to cheat a little bit, and buy a roman blind kit. These DIY kits come with all of the material you will need to make your roman blinds (thus saving you the hassle of going to lots of different shops for a bit here and a bit there), but leave all the fun bits – the actual construction – to you.
What’s In A Candle Holder

Mosaic Votive Candle Holder
Just about every house you go to has candles and of course candle holders. There are many styles to choose from and so many colors and different materials they can be made from. Votive candle holders probably started it off. They were and are used as part of a spiritual offering by many religions around the world. They burn for around 8 hours and are said to add weight to the prayer. More and more these days candles and holders are used as an interior design feature or as an ornament. Who doesn’t like being in a room bathed in candle light- it adds such an ambiance to your romantic meal or relaxation in the bathtub. Any candle holder you choose can change the way the candle light plays around the room. A simple votive candle holder made of colored glass can cast a different hue on the room to just a plain glass holder. So it’s important to choose one to suit your mood and decor for the best effect.
Decorating Your Garden With Things That Aren’t Plants
Posted by admin in Home and Garden on July 15th, 2009
When you are designing a garden it is important to consider all of the elements that aren’t flowers or vegetables. To make your garden uniquely you you need to give it bones. To do this you can use a beautiful garden arch, garden fencing, and statues to really make your garden unique.
For a cottage garden look use a cast iron garden arch covered in roses, cast iron edging, and statues of children at play. For an Asian inspired look, use a Buddha statue and polished river rock. The possibilities are litterally endless. No matter what you do in your garden, be sure that it reflects your style and personality (even if you use mooning garden gnomes).
Gardening is a very peaceful and rewarding activity. Have fun with it!
Spiral Staircase Tips
Posted by admin in Home and Garden on July 15th, 2009
Spiral staircases are very beautiful but should not be used for your main staircase. There are even laws that only allow you to have a spiral staircases if you have a normal staircase as well. If you are only using the spiral staircase for a loft type of area you should be able to get around this rule. The reason why this rule exists is because it is very difficult to bring things like groceries and laundry up and down these types of staircases. The other reason for this rule is that in case of an emergency it will be more difficult to exit down a spiral staircase. These types of staircases are also really great if you are looking to install a second floor patio. This type a staircase will make it convenient for you and your guests to go up to the patio and down to the yard. There are many uses for a spiral staircase it would be best to think about what your needs are before installing a spiral staircase.
Installing Garden Lighting

Garden lighting is so easy to install that I’m not even going to give an explanation here. Instead I’d like to focus on the benefits of having it once it is in place.
For instance, with garden lighting you will now have your whole yard lit up like a masterpiece painting. Well, maybe you won’t want to shed the light on everything. Instead most people just shine it on a few spots here and there. For instance, you can make it go up the front of your house. This looks nice. Another good thing is to highlight some nice flowers in your front path.
There is no real limit to what a homeowner can do with this great tool. The only thing is that you can’t forget to plug it in! If you do, it won’t work.
Mcclaren Stroller?
Posted by admin in Home and Garden on July 11th, 2009
Both in the US and the UK there seems to be some confusion about the actual spelling of the name of the pushchair manufacturers Maclaren. Some seem to make the error of thinking the company is Scottish and search on the Internet for a Mcclaren stroller. By far the biggest confusion arises when buyers assume there is a connection between Maclaren strollers and the Formula 1 organisation Mclaren. This is a mistake that I believe the pushchair makers play up to. They go out of their way to create ever more sporty looking strollers with go faster colors and designs and call their models names like “Triumph”. They certainly encourage an association with fast cars. Quite what the founder Owen Maclaren would make of this new development is any one’s guess, but it certainly hasn’t done sales any harm.
Miele Vacuum Cleaner Bags
Posted by admin in Home and Garden on July 10th, 2009
In a world where carpets everywhere are infested with millions of bugs it is very important to make sure your carpets are as clean as possible. Several large particles can easily clog even the best vacuum cleaner bags and can hinder your vacuum from picking up the microscopic bugs. This is why it is important to use a trusted company that uses advanced bag technology such as Miele vacuum cleaner bags.
There is an ongoing debate on whether or not vacuum bags are superior to the bagless variant. It has been said that bagless vacuums are easier to use but they also spew dust in the air when you empty them. This is why I would highly recommend getting a bagged vacuum cleaners so that you will have clean carpets forever.
How To Find A Tasty Salmon Recipe
Posted by admin in Home and Garden on July 10th, 2009
If you are looking for a good baked salmon recipe, there are many places you can look to find them. There are always plenty of good recipes in cookbooks or you can get ideas from family and friends. You can also visit recipe sites online to find great recipes. Or another option is to get creative and invent your own creation.
The key to baking salmon is make sure you keep the fish moist throughout the baking process. You can rub your fish with olive oil or baste it in melted butter or white wine. Adding your favorite herb such as dill or rosemary will help to draw out the natural flavors of the salmon. Rice, vegetables and salads make nice side dishes to complement your salmon main entree.
