The hCG diet has spawned many modifications over the years, but the one used by most weight loss clinic who use hCG supplementation is the protocol developed by the diet’s founder, Dr. Albert Simeons. By injecting his obese patients with a small dose of the hormone each day for several weeks, he found that they lost an average of a pound a day. Injections are continued for 23 days for 40 days. If the dieter wants to lose more than 15 lbs., the 40-day protocol is used. On the 23-day protocol, the dieter remains on the VLCD of 500 calories a day for 26 days—i.e. three days after the injections cease. This prevents a weight rebound.
Simeons’ Diet Protocol
The diet is as strict as anyone would expect for a 500-calorie limit. Nothing is consumed for breakfast except for any quantity of unsweetened tea or coffee. The lunch and dinner meals have the same options. The dieter may choose 100 grams (precooked) of fresh fish or meat, one piece of fruit, one vegetable and one breadstick.
