The advantage of this system to the customer is that they don’t need to commission a photographer to take a set of photographs specifically for the job in hand and wait for the pictures to arrive, a process that can prove expensive. Instead they view the pictures within the collection, select any they feel will suit their project and ‘rent’ their use, the rental is more usually in the form of a license to use but rental will suffice here.
You may feel that the photographer is the loser here selling their work cheaply, as well as not being paid to create the images in the first place; this is all true but the photographer also has the potential to loan out that same image many times, over many years, possibly earning far more per image, than they would have charged to create it. If the photographer continues to take photographs adding to their stock of pictures they will obviously add more ‘loan’ opportunities eventually building a regular passive income from this stock of pictures.
All of this can be carried out by the photographer by using the internet, this part is not really necessary as they can add their stock of pictures to an already established online photo library, the library who already have a list of clients, will for a share of the fee’s, market the pictures, arrange relevant licenses, collect fees and pay the photographers, leaving the photographer free to carry on creating more pictures.
This photography idea can be slow to build up sales but as the stock of pictures enlarges and sales volume grows, a very healthy regular income can be enjoyed.
