Gas Scooters Save Money at the Pump

If you’ve been hit in the wallet by the recent economic downturn and prices at the gas pump maybe a gas scooter can ease the burden.  Your average gas scooter can get 50 miles per gallon and there are models like the Yamaha C3 that can get up to 115 miles per gallon.  Granted, you can haul as much stuff around but if you’re going to run down to the store to pick up a few things, go to the movies, or maybe commute to work, you’ll save a lot of money.  Not only save money on gas but on maintenance costs.  The initial costs will also be lower, a scooter can cost a quarter of what a used car can cost.  Insurance costs can also be lower for scooters than for cars, not to mention parking.  And they’re just plain fun!  Maybe a gas scooter is in your future.

Why Tread Patterns Matter for Off-Road Tires: A Focus on Mud Terrain Tread

Tread patterns for the uninitiated and the non-enthusiasts in the circuit may look like simple designs that can roughen the image of the off-road tires. But for the true-blooded enthusiasts who take the challenge of the rough roads on a regular basis, the tread patterns are more than designs.

These patterns have traction, and in a way can also affect the overall operation of the service vehicle. With this in mind, selecting off-road tires should not be complete without taking a look at the tread patterns of the targeted tires. And the tread patterns that should be selected should be dependent on the actual use of the vehicle.

Lots of tread patterns are available in the market, but the one chosen by most is the mud terrain pattern. You will easily know if the chosen off-road tires are tagged under the mud terrain tread type.

You can easily observe the large lugs on the tires, and there are significant spaces in between these lugs. There is a reason behind the selection of large lugs and wide spaces in between them.

The large lugs on the tires are expected to deliver lots of bite during the so-called low traction conditions. The large spaces in between lugs on the other hand will allow for the tire to easily maintain itself. Tires can easily throw off the accumulated mud and dirt when it spins, and with this operation the tires are back in prime condition once again and ready to tackle the rough roads.

Tires under this tread design are also the choice of enthusiasts who are into rock crawling. When you say rock crawling, this means extreme form of driving in the off roads. Vehicles are made to pass through very harsh terrains that may include large rocks, rock piles and even boulders!

The reason this type of tread is helpful for this kind of off road adventure is that the large lugs on these off-road tires can effectively provide the best way for gripping and pulling the tires up, while the smoother and regular types of tires would just spin and spin around.

Though this tread design is very helpful in many off road situations, you need to remember as well that there is a drawback with this tread design. The mud terrain tread design for off road tires may run rough on highways and can be quite noisy.

But this is just a minor blip for this design, and overall this tread design is a hit and the reason why this is a common choice for off-roaders now.

Alternative Fuel Options

All of us are feeling the crunch of having to stand at the fuel pump and watch the numbers slip by so fast that you can’t even see them any longer.  It may seem that we are stuck with this particular form of energy but believe it or not, there are some alternative fuel options that you may want to consider.  Some of these may be available for you and others may be a little bit out of your reach.  Regardless, if you take a look around you for these alternative fuel options, you might be surprised with what you find.

Most of the major gas stations are now using a little bit of ethanol in with the fuel.  This does help to cut down on the price of gas to a certain extent but it may not make as much of an impact as you think that it would.  There has been some talk in the past about switching to an all ethanol fuel but this would not necessarily solve the problem as then we would only be dependent on another fuel source.

A more interesting idea, as far as alternative fuel options is concerned is to run your car on water.  There has been a lot of talk about this recently but believe it or not, the technology to be able to do this has been around for almost a century.  If you have a weekend and about $70, you can make some changes to your car that would allow you to run it on a 50% water/gas mixture.  This can save you a considerable monthly on your fuel bill.

Warm Up or Cool Down Your Car with a Remote Starter

If you live in a very hot or cold climate, a remote starter can make your life a whole lot easier. It allows you to start your car from a few hundred feet away, and even from inside your house. Many car alarm systems come equipped with a remote starter feature.

Here’s how it works: when you park your car, leave the heater on full blast (or in the summer, the air conditioning) and lock your doors. About five minutes before you’re ready to drive again, hit the “start” button on the special key fob that came with the remote starter. If it’s parked in a garage, you’ll want to open the garage door to let the exhaust fumes escape. Let the car run long enough to reach a comfortable interior temperature, then go out, use your keyless entry key fob to unlock the door, get in, and drive away in comfort.
