Kitchen Doors to Other Rooms
Posted by admin in Home and Garden on June 26th, 2009
While many people might be thinking of kitchen cabinet doors when you talk about kitchen doors, some think about the entrance into the kitchen that connects it to other rooms in your home. The most common choice for a kitchen door is one that can swing open and shut. The reason for the swinging door is that many times when you are using that door your hands will be full of food or dirty dishes. You do not want to be concerned about door handles when that is the case. There are two types of swinging doors. The first is a single door on hinges to one side or the other. These doors are quite heavy and can swing back too quickly causing the person walking through to lose their balance or be hit by the closing door. The other is a set of swinging doors that meet in the middle. This style is reminiscent of the old west and a saloon. These doors are not as heavy because the typically only cover about half of the open doorway.

Closet Organization

I am not a very organized person by nature. There are times when I look on in amazement as others with more of a gift for organization take five minutes to thoroughly organize an entire room. I decided to take on something a little smaller. I chose a closet.
First of all, I have come to the conclusion that closet organization might be more involved than doing the rest of the room. I’ve really only made it through step one of the process and it took me over an hour. The first logical step seems to be “the purge”. This is where you empty out what you have stuffed in to the closet over several years and throw away what you don’t use anymore and have plans of using again.
Like I said, this part took me a while. I did find a lot of stuff that I forgot I even owned though. Now I’ve got a closet’s worth of stuff spread all over my bedroom floor. I can’t leave it there, so I guess I’ll need to move on to some type of organizational step two very soon or start using an alternate route from my room to the hallway. I’m thinking about hanging ropes from the ceiling that would allow me to swing across the mess. Just kidding.

Envelope Sizing Terrors
Posted by admin in Uncategorized on June 23rd, 2009
Did you know that a lot of people think that 5 x 7 envelopes will fit their 5 x 7 invitations? It is actually recommended that the envelope should be at least 1/2” longer than the longest insert and have a 1/4” clearance from the top of the envelope. If you were to but a 5” x 7” into a 5” x 7” envelope the envelope would not close. It would also be difficult to put any other enclosures into the envelope. This is a good thing to know, especially if you are designing your own envelope and invitation. You would not want to have created all of these different pieces only to find out that you cannot fit your invitation into your envelope or that the invitations are too loose and rattle around too much. That would be terrible.
Carrying Out Soot Removal
Posted by admin in Home and Garden on June 23rd, 2009
One of the important tasks to have carried out after your house has experienced a fire is soot removal. Many people don’t realize the damage that soot can do to valuable items. In fact, many people don’t realize that the longer soot sits on an object the more damage that is done to it. You must be careful when carrying out the removal of soot because if you touch it with your hands or other objects you run the risk of pushing soot particles even deeper into the tiny cracks and fissures of the object you’re trying to clean. If that happens then the process of cleaning is made infinitely more difficult. Sometimes it is advisable to leave the soot where it is lying and call a clean up professional as soon as possible to come out and begin the process of cleaning up.
